FC Cincinnati 2 have been named MLS NEXT Pro Team of the Matchday for Matchday 24, the league announced today. The Orange and Blue earn the honor for the first time following their 2-0 win against New York City FC II at TQL Stadium on August 27.
The win, FC Cincinnati 2’s seventh of the season and second in their last three, keeps the Orange and Blue alive in the MLS NEXT Pro playoff race as they trail seventh place Chicago Fire FC II by 10 points with five matches to play.
Jesus Castellano and Paul Walters starred for FC Cincinnati 2 in the win, as Castellano scored and assisted in the match while Walters made seven saves, including a penalty save against Matt Myers in the 87th minute to preserve the team’s second shutout of the year.
The Orange and Blue are away to Atlanta United 2 on Saturday September 2 where they will begin their final stretch of regular season play. Three of Cincinnati’s last four games are on the road with their final home match coming against Columbus Crew 2 on September 17 at Scudamore Field at NKU Soccer Stadium.
