History

This match will mark the 10th all-time meeting between FCC and Pittsburgh, the first since October 6, 2018 when the clubs were both part of the USL Championship. The Orange and Blue are undefeated all-time against the Riverhounds, holding a 5-0-4 record against their rivals from the Steel City, including 3-0-2 at Highmark Stadium.

The two sides have once met in the U.S. Open Cup, in the 2018 Third Round when FCC won 3-1 in Pittsburgh.

2022 marks the 107th edition of the U.S. Open Cup, the oldest national soccer competition in the United States which first began in 1913. The Orange and Blue are 8-3-2 all-time in the event, which most notably FC Cincinnati advanced to the semifinals of in 2017, falling in extra time to the New York Red Bulls in front of a then sell-out crowd of 33,250 fans at Nippert Stadium. But not before the then-USL side advanced past five opponents including defeating Columbus Crew SC and knocking off Chicago Fire in penalty kicks.

In the last U.S. Open Cup held in 2019, FC Cincinnati defeated Louisville City FC 2-1 after extra time in the Fourth Round before falling to Saint Louis FC in the Round of 16.
