Academy sweep Wolves at MHTC

CINCINNATI – The FC Cincinnati Academy returned to USSF Development Academy regular-season action on Sunday when they hosted Michigan Wolves at home on Sunday, March 1 at the Mercy Health Training Center. The Under-17’s defeated won their match, 3-1, while the Under-15’s won, 2-1, as both teams completed comeback wins on the day.

FC Cincinnati conceded early in the game. Michigan Wolves applied a heavy press and were able to take the lead in the second minute after stealing possession of the ball. The Orange and Blue responded immediately, however. Arnel Miscic (Cincinnati, Ohio) dribbled through the right flank and whipped a cross to the near post. Charlie Hamman’s (Cincinnati, Ohio) diving header beat the goalkeeper and brought the game even. Arquimides Ordonez (Fort Thomas, Ky.) stole the ball and blasted a shot from 25 yards out to give the home team the lead before the first half ended. In the 63rd minute, William Bencic (West Chester, Ohio) found Ordonez just outside of the penalty area. Ordonez stepped into the box and placed his shot inside the far post for his second goal of the match. Wolves finished the game with 10 men after Giovanni Covelli picked up a red card in the 75th minute.

FCC saw themselves chasing the scoreline early in the game. In the sixth minute, Manuel Chavez’s header gave Michigan Wolves the lead. Cincinnati were able to equalize in the 34th minute. Matthew Dreas (Covington, Ky.) intercepted the ball and played the ball over to Ryder Mills (West Chester, Ohio). Mills spun and sent a left-footed shot inside the far post. In the 75th minute, Mills beat the backs of the Wolves’ backline and found himself one-on-one against the goalkeeper, Alexander Heitsch. Heitsch fouled Mills inside the box and was sent off with a red card. Mills stepped up to the penalty spot and placed his game-winning penalty kick to his right.
