CINCINNATI, OH --- FC Cincinnati’s Austin Berry has announced his retirement from his playing career had has accepted a position with the technical staff. He will continue to remain a member of the Orange and Blue first team.
Berry, part of FCC’s inaugural roster, co-captained the team the last two seasons. The Cincinnati native played in 30 games this season while starting 28 and was second on the team in clearances (89), interceptions (81) and duels won (147). Berry scored a goal in USL action and one against New York Red Bulls in the U.S. Open Cup semifinal.
“We were pleased to be able to bring Austin back to end his career in front of his hometown fans,” said Jeff Berding, FCC President and General Manager. “It was important to us that we had a Cincinnatian on our roster to be a positive role model for our youth soccer players. We look forward to Austin continuing on as a part of the technical staff as we move forward.”
Berry is currently finishing courses to receive his certification in strength and conditioning and will be a full-time coach for the first team. Working with Head Coach Alan Koch, Berry will be responsible for establishing schedules and tailoring programs for the FCC players to enhance and maintain peak performance.
