FC Cincinnati 2 have signed midfielder Alejandro Guido as a player-coach, the club announced today. Guido will join the MLS NEXT Pro squad as a player as well as Head Coach Tyrone Marshallās coaching staff for the upcoming 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Guido, 29, inks a deal with the Orange and Blue after spending three full seasons with the San Diego Loyal of the USL Championship from 2021-2023. Guido made 100 appearances for the club and led the Loyal to three consecutive appearances in the USL Championship Playoffs.
Guido tallied 13 goals and 13 assists over his Loyal career and logged over 6,500 minutes across all competitions, beginning in 2020 with his arrival on loan from MLS side Los Angeles Football Club. In the five matches played on loan, Guido scored 2 goals and tallied 2 assists in just under 300 minutes and guided San Diego to an unbeaten run.
The Chula Vista, California native began his professional career with Liga MX side Club Tijuana in 2012 after moving through the clubās youth system and making his debut in a 2-1 win over Celaya FC. With Tijuanaās first team, Guido made 56 appearances over seven years while spending the 2013-2014 season on loan with Dorados de Sinaloia.
Following his time with Tijuana, Guido signed with LAFC, where he was a part of the matchday roster across numerous competitions, including the MLS regular season and the Concacaf Champions Cup (2019).
On the international stage, Guido represented the United States at the U17, U18, U20 and U23 levels and earned his first senior USMNT call up in 2018. Guido has scored four goals for the Stars and Stripes in 50 matches and made four appearances in the 2011 U17 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
