The FC Cincinnati Academy had a strong fourth weekend of competition in the 2021-22 MLS Next Regular Season. The Young Gary’s went 4-0-1 in action against SC Wave and Sockers FC.
The FC Cincinnati Academy U13 and U14 squads hosted SC Wave from outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the Mercy Health Training Center. The U15, U17 and U19 squads traveled to Chicago to take on Sockers FC.
Here’s a look at how each academy age group fared:
U13 | FC Cincinnati Academy 6, SC Wave 0
Harlan Smith shined for the Young Gary’s, scoring three goals and adding two assists in the dominant rout. Anson Sentar, Cooper Neace and Merrick Joska each tallied goals in the win.
Booker Gifford and Kerick Kohler manned the net in the clean sheet victory.
U14 | FC Cincinnati Academy 3, SC Wave 2
Jose Stefeno and AJ Scanon tallied goals, when Blake Koch played hero. With two minutes to go in the match, Koch netted the game-winner to give FC Cincinnati Academy a 3-2 win over SC Wave.
U15 | Sockers FC 1, FC Cincinnati Academy 3
JP Piedra scored his second goal this season, and Sean Dickerson and David Do added two more as the U15s took the victory. Sam Weeter had two assists.
U17 | Sockers FC 2, FC Cincinnati Academy 2
Nicky Samways scored and then assisted Sam Vota’s goal in the 2-2 deadlock for the U17s.
U19 | Sockers FC 1, FC Cincinnati Academy 2
Daniel Samways’ two goals were the difference in the U19’s victory last weekend.
Paul Walters came up huge in net, saving a PK and keeping FCC in the lead.

The MLS Next season continues Saturday, Oct 9 and Sunday, Oct 10 with eight matches across the FC Cincinnati Academy. The U13 and U14 squads will face off against Lou Fusz Athletic, and the U16 and U17 teams will play St. Louis City SC on Saturday. On Sunday, six academy teams will host St. Louis Scott Gallagher.
