FC Cincinnati have signed forward Brandon Vazquez to a contract extension through the 2025 season, with an option for 2026, the club announced today. Vazquez is currently in his third season with the club, having scored a club-record 21 career goals for the Orange and Blue.
“We are delighted to keep Brandon with FC Cincinnati for years to come,” said FC Cincinnati General Manager Chris Albright. “Re-signing Brandon was a major priority for us this summer, as he has proven he can be one of the league's best forwards. He has been a vital part of our success this season thanks to his character and dedication to the game, and we are excited to have him as a foundational piece going forward.”
Vazquez, 23, has tallied 15 goals and four assists in 25 appearances this season. He currently stands third in the league’s Golden Boot race, and he joined Luciano Acosta as one of the first two MLS All-Stars in FCC’s history. He ranks first in goals in a single season (15, 2022), career goals for the club (21) and shots on goal (50) for the club. He also ranks second in MLS appearances (75) and third in assists (9).
“I’m extremely thankful to continue to be a part of FC Cincinnati,” said Vazquez. “Over the past three years, I have made Cincinnati my home, and I’m excited to continue to work hard for this club. I want to thank the organization, my coaches, teammates and especially the fans who have supported me along the way.”
His breakout 2022 has come following a strong run of form at the end of 2021, where he scored four goals and three assists in 828 minutes of game action. He became the first player in club history to score in three consecutive games last October, a feat he has since surpassed this year with his four-game goal streak from July 23 to Aug. 13.
Vazquez was originally acquired by FC Cincinnati on Nov. 19, 2019 from Nashville SC via trade following the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft in which Nashville selected Vazquez in the fourth round from Atlanta United FC. In three seasons with Atlanta, Vazquez made a combined 32 appearances, including seven starts, and scored three goals and added two assists with the 5-Stripes.
Prior to debuting in MLS at 18 years old, the Chula Vista, Calif. native was a regular internationally for the United States at the U-17, U-19 and U-20 levels. He was one of two players, along with Chelsea FC’s Christian Pulisic, to score for the U.S. at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Vazquez was a Discovery Signing for Atlanta United FC in December 2016 prior to their expansion season, joining Atlanta from Club Tijuana of LIGA MX.
