FC Cincinnati have traded defender Gustavo Vallecilla to the Colorado Rapids in a deal worth up to $850,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM), the club announced today. In exchange, the Rapids will send $400,000 in 2022 GAM, $400,000 in 2023 GAM, and up to $50,000 GAM if certain performance-based metrics are met. FC Cincinnati will retain 10 percent of any future transfer above what Colorado paid for Vallecilla.
Additionally, Vallecilla will retain his U22 initiative tag with the Rapids, freeing up an international spot and a U22 initiative spot on the FC Cincinnati roster.
“We’d like to thank Gustavo for his time with us, and we wish him all the best in Colorado,” said Chris Albright, FC Cincinnati General Manager.
Vallecilla made 25 appearances on loan for FC Cincinnati last season from SD Aucas in Ecuador. The 22-year-old scored two goals last season in two separate matches against CF Montréal. In just over 2,000 minutes of action, he completed nearly 83% of his passes and won 77% of his duels.
