CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati and Brighton & Hove Albion have agreed to extend the loan of striker Jurgen Locadia to FCC by one year. Originally set to expire on July 5, 2020, with an FCC permanent transfer option, the clubs agreed to push the end date of the original loan out to June 30, 2021. FC Cincinnati will still hold a permanent transfer option at the conclusion of the new loan date.
Locadia, 26, is classified as both a Designated Player and an international player on the FCC roster. Should FC Cincinnati choose to exercise the permanent transfer option, Locadia’s MLS contract would run through December 31, 2023.
The striker scored in his first MLS appearance on March 1, 2020, coming off the bench in the club’s season opener at New York Red Bulls. He then started the team’s next match on March 7, 2020, when the team fell at Atlanta United FC. The 2020 MLS season was suspended just five days later because of the coronavirus pandemic and is now set to resume on July 8.
Before joining Cincinnati, the forward made 231 career professional appearances, including 146 starts, in nine seasons spanning stints in the Netherlands, England and Germany. He scored 72 goals and added 42 assists at stops with PSV Eindhoven (2011-17), Brighton (2018-20) and TSG Hoffenheim (2019-20).
