FC Cincinnati defender Maikel van der Werff earned a place on Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week for week eight. Van der Werff helped the Orange and Blue blackline record their fourth clean sheet of the season in a scoreless draw against Columbus Crew SC at Nippert Stadium on Saturday night.
Van der Werff made his return to the Cincinnati starting lineup this past weekend against Columbus after appearing as a second half substitute against Chicago Fire FC on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
The Dutch defender completed 32-of-34 passes for a passing accuracy of 94.1% and led the team with four interceptions. Van der Werff and the Orange and Blue defense held the opposition without a goal for fourth time this season.
FC Cincinnati will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 2, when the team plays Chicago Fire FC. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on WSTR 64, carried on the radio on WDJO (99.5 FM, 107.9 FM and 1480 AM), streamed regionally on fccincinnati.com/stream, out of market on ESPN+, while an audio stream will be available at TuneIn (WDJO) and fccincinnati.com.
