FC Cincinnati midfielder Junior Moreno has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 4, the league announced Monday. Moreno earns a spot among the league’s weekly best for his first time as a member of the Orange and Blue.
Moreno netted the second brace of his career, the 11th all-time multi-goal performance in FC Cincinnati’s MLS history, in Saturday night’s 3-3 draw at Chicago Fire FC.
Moreno opened and closed the scoring at Chicago, scoring the opener in the 8th minute for his first goal since May 28, 2022 at CF Montréal, a night when he also tallied a brace, the only two goals of his FCC career prior to Saturday night. His 87th minute goal, a sharp first-time hit off a failed Chicago clearance inside the box, secured a vital comeback point for the Orange and Blue.
Moreno’s late equalizing goal was FC Cincinnati’s 150th all-time goal scored in MLS competition. Additionally, Moreno’s 88.9% passing accuracy led all starters on the field Saturday night and his eight possessions won matched the team-high for FC Cincinnati.
Moreno’s recognition comes shortly after he earned a call-up to the Venezuelan National Team last week.
Moreno’s naming to the MLS Team of the Matchday is the fourth recognition of an FC Cincinnati player on the weekly team this season. A full list of 2023 FC Cincinnati weekly honors:
