FC Cincinnati midfielder Obinna Nwobodo has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 25, the league announced Thursday. Nwobodo’s stoppage-time winner secured a 2-1 comeback win for FC Cincinnati over the New York Red Bulls Wednesday night.

Nwobodo’s naming to the Team of the Matchday is the fourth this season for the defensive midfielder.

Nwobodo’s second-career MLS goal came in grand fashion for the Orange and Blue. With FC Cincinnati tied with the Red Bulls three minutes after the 90th minute, Nwobodo’s first-time shot through traffic in the box found the bottom right corner of the net.

His goal, marked at minute 90+3, is matched with Brandon Vazquez’s winner at Minnesota United FC in May 2022 for the latest game-winner in club history.

In addition to Nwobodo’s game-winning goal, the defensive midfielder led FC Cincinnati players with four tackles won and two interceptions.

The naming of Nwobodo to the MLS Team of the Matchday is the 28th recognition of an FC Cincinnati player on the weekly team this season. A full list of 2023 FC Cincinnati weekly honors:
