The FC Cincinnati Academy played their first ever homes games this past Saturday at the Mercy Health Training Center. Both teams hosted Chicago Fire Soccer Academy in their third Development Academy Cup game of the season. The Under-17’s lost 2-0 against Chicago, while the Under-15’s achieved their first win in an official match after defeating Chicago 1-0.
UNDER-17’s
The U-17’s started the game with an opportunity to get on the scoresheet early. Akinni James (Cincinnati, Ohio) had faced Chicago’s goalkeeper on a one-on-one challenge, but his shot hit the left post. In the 10th minute, Wyatt Borso gave the away team the lead. FC Cincinnati’s defense was unable to clear a cross that had been headed back in by Chicago, leaving the ball and space for Borso. Missael Rodriguez doubled Chicago’s lead in the 80th minute. After receiving the ball from midfield, Rodriguez raced towards goal and ripped a shot to the upper 90 as he approached the penalty box. Minutes later Cincinnati almost got on the scoresheet. After a series of passes Daniel Samways (Loveland, Ohio) laid the ball out to Andrew Boettcher (Dayton, Ohio), who tested his luck from 30 yards out. The post would once again deny FC Cincinnati from getting a goal.

The U-15’s were victorious for the first time in an official game after defeating Chicago Fire Soccer Academy 1-0. Adal Salinas (Cincinnati, Ohio) found the game-winner in the fifth minute. Nicholas Samways (Loveland, Ohio) attempted to capitalize off a rebound but his shot went wide towards Salinas, who kicked the ball past Chicago’s goalkeeper to give the home team the lead. Moments later, Salinas was close to doubling Cincinnati’s lead. His right-footed shot from the edge of the 18-yard box was parried away for a corner kick. In the second half, FC Cincinnati controlled the tempo of the game and held on to their first win.
