One of the most memorable games in club history returns to the airwaves this weekend when WSTR Star64 re-airs the 2017 U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match against the Chicago Fire, when the Orange and Blue defeated their second consecutive MLS opponent in the annual tournament.
The game will be televised by Star64 at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, and will also be re-simulcast on fccincinnati.com within the WSTR Star64 viewing area.
After the two sides remained scoreless through 120 minutes, FC Cincinnati defeated Chicago in penalties, 3-1. Josu, Harrison Delbridge and Jimmy McLaughlin scored their respective penalty kicks to send the Orange and Blue to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup.
Two weeks prior, FC Cincinnati defeated Columbus Crew SC, 1-0, in the fourth-round of the U.S. Open Cup and the first installment of the “Hell is Real Derby”. FCC would go on to defeat The Miami FC in the quarterfinals before suffering a heart-breaking extra-time loss against the New York Red Bulls in the semifinal matchup.
Once again, fans will be able to watch the match accompanied by “The Buffalo Wings & Rings Second Screen Experience” that will be streamed live starting at 3:30 p.m. on the club’s Facebook page. The Voice of FCC, Tom Gelehrter, will be joined by Kadeem Dacres, Aodhan Quinn and Mitch Hildebrandt to recount experiences and memories of the rebroadcast match, as well as other behind-the-scenes stories.
