Thank you. This past year has been a new, much more positive chapter of my life and you -- plus the rest of the FC Cincinnati organization -- are partly responsible.
I have Muscular Dystrophy, and the type I have causes gradual weakening year after year. Last spring, I was approved for my motorized wheelchair by insurance and my relatives helped me acquire a van to transport it. Five years ago, I lost the physical capability to move myself around in my manual chair. This meant me staying at home save for appointments or special occasions. The new chair has changed that, and I try to utilize my newfound freedom as much as I can.
The creation of FC Cincinnati could not have come at a more perfect time for me. My love of soccer is a new thing for me too, and my friend Brian is responsible. It is by his generosity I am able to come to the games too: he had to push me a bit in the beginning but the hospitality everyone has shown made falling in love with the game so easy.
From Coach Harkes and Martin inviting us down to practices and the friendliness of players and front office staff -- every single person has been approachable and that is amazing.
FC Cincinnati has been the catalyst for new friendships, too. Brian and I have been floating between the Supporter Groups looking for a good fit. We went to Rhinehaus and Molly Malone's a few times for away games and checked out a few tailgates. A few weeks ago we saw a group in corner of Adriatico’s lot and we decided to check them out. The welcomed us and offered us refreshments. We returned for next game with a small brisket and shared another great experience. Last weekend you got to meet them too, a great bunch of fans. My circle of friends is slowly starting to grow because of what FC Cincinnati has created.
I am positive there are many more stories like this but I wanted to share mine with you. My sister and her family will be joining us for their first FC Cincinnati game this weekend, and I can’t wait to share this experience and my joy with her.
Thank you again, FCC. The whole organization has my deepest gratitude for the spark you have given back to my life.
